Germany is suspending four infrastructure projects in Republika Srpska. The reason for this, as they say, is Milorad Dodik's secessionist policy.
The projects are worth a total of 105 million KM. The German Embassy in our country announced everything, and we convey the statement below and without editorial interventions.
The German federal government has decided to allow four infrastructure projects worth a total of 105 million euros to expire in Republika Srpska, thus ending them successively.
The background of this is the continuation of the secessionist policy of Republika Srpska and its president Milorad Dodik. This decision was notified to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the project partners. These are projects of rehabilitation of hydroelectric power plant Trebinje, phases III and IV, wind farm Hrgud, and wastewater disposal in Gradiška.
The last-mentioned project is the subject of cooperation with Switzerland.
In response to the decisions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska of December 2021 on the restoration of competencies and the creation of its own institutions with the aim of weakening the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the German government decided in April 2022 to temporarily halt four infrastructure projects first.
However, there has been no withdrawal of the secessionist measures sought by the German government. Instead, the President and Government of Republika Srpska continued to escalate the political crisis.
The Federal Government of Germany has therefore now decided not to restart suspended projects. The projects will be successively completed in accordance with the contract.
This decision does not explicitly apply to other German development cooperation projects that are implemented at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina or the Western Balkans region, and thus include Republika Srpska, as well as cooperation with civil society.
The German government supports Bosnia and Herzegovina's rapprochement with the European Union. Germany is ready to further intensify cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina, both in the Federation and in Republika Srpska. The basic demand, however, is the preservation of peace, the rule of law and the territorial integrity of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
